So I am back in New Kingston again for training this week and the training center does not validate parking. Needless to say everyone that goes to that facility is not pleased with shelling out $200 a day for parking in a KSAC parking lot. When I used to work in that parking challenged section of the city I used to arrive at work before 7:00am just to squeeze into the last available free parking on the road in front of my office but that is no longer an option as I am now spoiled and probably wont leave my house that early just to wait and the NWA has now re-zoned the parking spaces into roadway.
Class was really boring and while spacing out I came up with the bright idea of taking the bus for a few days this week. The bus stop is less than a minutes walk from my house and I would only need one short $50 bus ride to reach the hip strip! I always thought my location made it so easy to get around but never really felt the need to hop on a bus before until I had to face these daily parking fees. Other than that it's totally not worth it.
What is funny to me is that I always cuss about Jamaica's public transport system being outdated and unreliable but my quick google search today brought me to JUTC's website with route information and all! My jaw hit the ground.. the site is ugly, the buses are probably still late but this was a step in the right direction. Maybe if my stint with JUTC works out for this week then I can look into using them some more.

I am not a regular JUTC customer but from time to time I might hop on one to work. The service varies by the route I think and with some of the new buses coming i I hope they continue to improve.
I think only in Japan, Switzerland, and Germany does public transportation come when it says it will. Having a time table means JUTC takes itself seriously.
I mean, even airplanes don't depart/arrive according to schedule and you would think they ought to with the fare you're paying.
So it was you i saw dragging your feet to wait on NCB to open yesterday. You looked so lazy like, why am i here?
Progress, now I know where to look if i ever visit...
I can understand if planes don't leave when they should.. they have to be very careful and secure.
@tami: I was not pleased at all... I hate going to the bank. so I was dragging my feet and waiting at the same time? how does that work? where you waiting outside too? or just stalking as usual? :p
@cranky: if you ever visit kingston.. I don't think you'd be going on jutc.
it was fun though to kick it while someone else drives. I am looking forward to the rest of the week.
LOL i stalk from a far. I was across the road at Scotia waiting too when i saw this bald head browning. Looked a bit closer and it turned out to be you.
I think I need to take up the stalking... I will be waiting outside both banks next week. Tami and Adrian, make sure to present yourselves.
I can't tell the last time I took a bus! I just don't think I want to o back there, even though i miss the conversations with random women. I might revisit the bus system when gas goes up more (which it will) and when they have a more predictable schedule. Didn't know they had a website, very good move by JUTC.
Hmm, I would think the high price a gas would be enough incentive for some people to take public transportation, but apparently not. People still guzzling gas like is water...
I'm all about the green living, so I say hop on the bus a few times a week and reduce your ecological footprint on the world.
Tami is a stalker fi real...
as a regular JUTCer i kno the damn system is still shit...i only take the big AC ones that actually do follow schedule, they are more expensive therefore not as packed and they're quite comfy with tv or music and all and they dont do this transfer crap, straight to my yard.
if i miss it..then is straight death-by-coaster fi mi money...the old buses that dont have AC take too long to come...too long to reach and they hot as hell.
and if u can take one bus to reach new kgn then that narrows it down hol heap...hehe
hahaha the website is NOT THAT BAD. I've seen worst
Yeah I remember those early morning rides into new kingston to get free parking..
yeh jutc not that bad. more advanced than i thought they would be. if you lose your bus card and it was registered for tracking u can get a new card with the balance transferred. I thought it was just magnetics like the old cable and wireless phone cards and not an central stored setup.
